Lualhati Bautista is not only a novelist, but also a screenwriter and an activist. She has written scripts for several films and television shows, such as Sakada (1976), Bulaklak sa City Jail (1984), Kadenang Bulaklak (1994), and Tubusin Mo ng Bala ang Puso Ko (1995). She has also been involved in various causes and movements, such as the anti-nuclear campaign, the women's liberation movement, and the anti-Marcos resistance. Lualhati Bautista was born on December 2, 1945 in Tondo, Manila. She was the daughter of Esteban Bautista and Gloria Torres. She attended Emilio Jacinto Elementary School and Florentino Torres High School. She enrolled in journalism at the Lyceum of the Philippines, but dropped out to pursue her passion for writing.
